God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. (Matt. 5:4)
Jesus is giving us the go-ahead to feel our negative feelings. For you to mourn, you need to lower your defenses. Protecting your pain will not bring you change or healing. Jesus wants to renew your heart and strengthen your character. In order for Jesus to do that, you need to learn how to grieve your losses, pain, unfair treatment, etc.
Grief…
When you grieve it allows you to draw closer to God. Jesus was sent to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and the afflicted; He was sent to bind up and heal your broken heart, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captive, and to break open up the doors of whatever is holding you prisoner, allowing you to instead walk freely in the light of His love. (Is 61:1)
For us to heal our broken hearts we need to identify the source of our pain. God wants you to express it to him. Yes, He already knows. But He wants us to express our anger. When we don’t, Satan gains a foothold on soul. If you don’t identify your pain you start to feel bad, maybe guilty, and in some cases even shame.
Lamentations 3 tells us that God may bring us grief, but He also brings His unfailing love and comfort. Through your suffering comes growth and character. Let go, and let God have any pain you might be holding onto today. Life is full of lessons. Be open to learn. If you’re unhappy, admit it. If you don’t like how you feel, say it. Don’t disown yourself -- respect yourself. Face the truth even if it hurts.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19
I don't know about you, but it's hard for me to drive forward when I'm looking in my rear view mirror. I find the same to be true when I continuously live in the past ... I can't move forward because I'm looking backward.
It doesn't make sense for us to live in the past and relive our offenses, mistakes, failures, disappointments and discouragements. Our past doesn't determine our future.
“When the door of happiness closes, another opens. But often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.” (Unknown) So many people try to open a door that God closed. We need to trust God and go through the door that's open no matter how scary it is. God is in the unknown.
If a door closes, always remember that there’s a reason for it. Alexander Graham Bell nailed it when he said, “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us. Do your best to live in the present and take in what you have before you.”
